University of Kirkuk Organizes Symposium on Rejecting Sectarianism, Hatred, and Extremism

The Legal Division, in collaboration with the Human Rights Unit and the Continuing Education Division at the College of Agriculture, organized an awareness symposium titled “Rejecting Sectarianism, Hatred, and Extremism,” attended by college faculty, staff, and students.

The symposium featured two lectures by Assistant Lecturer Omar Mohammed Ghanem and Assistant Lecturer Sarabst Taha Sharif, who emphasized the critical importance of combating these harmful phenomena in society. They highlighted the severe consequences of sectarianism, hatred, and extremism, which threaten societal peace and stability.

Key Recommendations from the Symposium:

  1. Strengthen Legal and Educational Reforms:

    • Enhance the role of law and promote cultural and educational reforms to address root causes of division.

  2. Empower Youth Through Social Justice:

    • Foster opportunities for youth engagement and equity to build inclusive communities.

  3. Activate Media and Rehabilitation Programs:

    • Utilize media platforms to spread awareness and implement ideological rehabilitation programs to counter extremist narratives.

The symposium underscored the need for collaborative efforts between academic, legal, and social institutions to promote tolerance and unity, aligning with the university’s mission to advance ethical and humanitarian values.
